Starbucks Raises a £1000!

STARBUCKS RAISE OVER £1000 TO FURTHER THE WORK OF RELAY FOR LIFE, EASTOURNE, CANCER RESEARCH UK

Starbucks in Terminus Road, offered to host Cancer UK’s Annual Coffee Morning (held on 6 April), and carried out further fundraising events to support the local Relay For Life event (Cancer Research UK).

Janet Geering, Event Chair (Voluntary) said “Right now, Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer research charity dedicated to beating all types of cancer, including the ones that matter to you. Today, more than 850 people will be diagnosed with cancer. The support of local businesses and residents in Eastbourne has enabled important fundraising to continue and the chances of survival have doubled in the last 40 years. CRUK spends over £1.2 million locally in East Sussex through their scientists work at Brighton University. Relay For Life is a local community that has raised over £70,000 in the last 2.5 years and I am very proud of our teams, supporters and local businesses that have enabled this to happen.”

Chris Smith Store Manager said “I am delighted to help this cause. Most people have been effected by cancer in some way and Starbucks works with the local community to make a difference. The coffee morning was well supported and had a great atmosphere. From the sale of unity bands and a previous coffee morning we raised £1,355.54. An amazing sum and we wish Relay For Life Eastbourne continued success with their fundraising.

Relay For Life, Eastbourne

Relay For Life is the largest fundraiser for Cancer Research globally. This year’s Event will take place on 1st and 2nd July at Eastbourne Sports Park. The 24-hour event is a celebration of the years fundraising and is a mini Music Fest with tams taking it in terms to walk round a track for 24 hours. Survivors of cancer are welcome to a high tea, which has proven to be very popular. They are able to bring a guest.

Craig Geering (Team Chair) said “we encourage people to come along and find out more about how they can become involved. There are lots of activities, entertainment for visitors and teams take part in themed laps. Come and enjoy yourselves and help raise money for this worthy cause.

Relay For Life holding a meeting Friday 28th April at the venue (Eastbourne Sports Park, Cross Levels Way) from 19:00 – 20:00 for existing teams, and anyone who is interested. Refreshments will be available.
